FINANCE MINISTER INSPECTS CONSTRUCTION WORKS OF THE REGIONAL HOSPITAL FOR PAEDIATRIC SURGERY

 

Finance Minister Matia Kasaija accompanied by Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng have jointly visited the site for the centre of Excellence in Paediatric surgery hospital under construction in Entebbe.

The Finance Minister applauded EMMERGENCY NGO from Italy for constructing the hospital in Uganda which will go a long way to improve health care services in the country.

The 72 bed hospital for paediatric surgery will provide free of charge paediatric surgery to children aged 1 month to 14 years from Uganda and neighbouring countries.

“Government is committed to provide the required funding in line with the financing agreement and it is our expectation that the hospital services will be of high quality,” said Kasaija.

The total cost of constructing the hospital is 117 billion of which EMMERGENCY NGO is contributing 30%,Government of Uganda is contributing 20% (approx.45.5 billion) and the other 50% will be sourced from other donors.

Government of Uganda has already contributed 22.58 billion towards the project expected to be completed by the end of 2019.

The Health Minister said having a separate facility for paediatric service is a step forward to improving child health and overall development.

She said this was the first separate paediatric facility in Uganda, adding that the hospital which is expected to be operational in 2020 will transform Entebbe municipality.

The President EMMERGENCY NGO, Rossella Miccio thanked Government for the commitment towards the construction of the hospital.

She said the hospital will have three operating theatres, out-patient department, laboratory and blood bank, diagnostic imaging department and regional program patients’ guesthouse among other features.
